Cinestudy presents a new EDIT THIS project where we give you all the raw unedited footage for an entire short film and you can download, edit, and upload your versions – all for free. Start by downloading the screenplay, read it and make notes, then download the footage, film score, and logo to start your own edit of the film. These EDIT THIS projects are a way to learn the art of film editing. We’re emulating the relationship between the director, me and the editor – you.
All you have to do is follow these simple rules. You must use the hashtags #sonnyboo and #cinestudy and you have to use the complete end credits either on screen or in the description. This particular project has two more stipulations. You have to use the title ACCIDENTAL ART, log is included in the Google drive, and you can only use the original score provided with versions of this short film and not on any other videos or films. Feel free and use your own score, but make sure you own the rights to use any music you use in conjunction with your upload. Don’t have editing software? Try DaVinci Resolve, the totally free software https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve or Hitfilm Express

DIRECTORS NOTES: The footage was shot with a RED camera in full 4K and it is not color graded. The audio is a little inconsistent shot to shot because of the locations, so there will need to be some balancing and clean up. Accidental Art is a dark dark comedy, so the tone plays more dramatic and the situation creates the humor. A lot of lines of dialogue are unnecessary, so feel free and cut out several lines and rely more on visual storytelling. The reaction shots are the key, so split edits, L-cuts and J-cuts are the best way to convey how the characters feel and make for a smoother tone.

there’s no audio in the exterior shots, is it supposed to be that way??
LikeLike
Yes, as stated in the intro video – the exteriors were shot MOS, meaning without sound and you guys will need to create a sound design for this project.

Do we need to include the clip of him getting shot? Or are we able to choose a different way to end the film? also are we supposed to use the score that was made for this film? I’m confused because you said we need to make our own- if so, do we still need to include Bill Wandel in the credits if we don’t use his score?

Hi and thank you for this!
I was wondering if the file Accidental Art LOGO.ai is uploaded correctly? It seems to display only IDEN letters.

Rendering out my proxies now, excited to get started! I don’t suppose soundrolls are available? The audio mix on the QTs is kind of a bummer, probably beyond repair.
